These terms govern the use of the ServerMod Discord bot, its dashboard, and this site. Using any of them means accepting them. If you do not accept them, do not use the bot - and if you are a member of a server that runs it, you may leave that server.

01 What ServerMod is

ServerMod is moderation and community software for Discord, provided to server operators who run it on their own infrastructure. Two kinds of person are covered by these terms and their obligations differ:

• an operator, who runs an installation and configures it;
• a member, of a Discord server where an operator has installed it.

02 Moderation decisions belong to the server

So a warning, mute, kick or ban is that server’s decision, not ours, and an appeal against one goes to that server’s moderators. We do not overturn, review or intervene in another community’s moderation, and cannot restore access to a server we do not run.

03 Acceptable use

You may not use ServerMod, or any part of it, to:

• break Discord’s Terms of Service or Community Guidelines, or any applicable law;
• harass, stalk, threaten, dox or surveil an individual, including by using its logging, statistics or presence tracking to build a profile of somebody for those ends;
• collect data from members for a purpose they have not been told about;
• evade a ban, impersonate another person, or misrepresent a moderation record;
• attack, overload, reverse-engineer for circumvention, or attempt unauthorised access to an installation, its dashboard, its database or its API;
• automate, resell or redistribute access to a dashboard you were granted as a moderator.

04 If you run an installation

An operator agrees to all of the following.

• Tell your members. You are responsible for informing the people in your server what is collected and why, and for pointing them at a privacy policy - this one, or your own if it is at least as complete.
• You are the controller. The data is in your database, on your machine. Access requests, corrections and erasure requests from your members are yours to answer, and you must handle them within the time your local law allows.
• Configure honestly. Retention windows, channel exclusions, AI features and presence tracking are yours to set. Setting them in a way that misleads your members about what is being kept is a breach of these terms.
• Staff access is yours to grant. Role-based permissions exist so that a moderator sees only what their job needs. Granting broad access is your decision and your responsibility.
• Keep credentials secret. Bot tokens, API keys and instance tokens are yours to protect. Tell us at [email protected] if one is exposed.

05 The ban network

An installation may report its own bans to the ServerGuard network, as described in the privacy policy. Reporting is a request for review by that network’s staff and not a sanction in itself; ServerMod neither reads nor enforces the blacklist, and never bans anybody on account of another server’s decision. An operator who reports a ban warrants that it was a genuine moderation decision and not a means of harassing an account. Deliberately false reports are a breach of these terms and may end an installation’s participation.

06 Appeals

Where a server has enabled appeals, an appeal is a route to a human review. It is not a guarantee of reinstatement, and the reviewing server decides the outcome. Submitting an appeal requires signing in with the Discord account under sanction, so that the appeal can be matched to it. Abusing the appeal system - repeated bad-faith submissions, or using the form to contact moderators who have blocked you - may cost you access to it.

07 Third-party services

ServerMod runs on Discord and may call other services on an operator’s behalf: OpenAI for content classification, and social platforms for the feeds a server chooses to follow. Those services have their own terms, which apply to that use. We are not responsible for their availability, their pricing, or a change in their rules.

Where a feed integration needs a registered developer application, that application belongs to the deployment rather than to any one server on it, and the operator running the deployment is responsible for it - including for keeping it within the platform’s terms. What belongs to an individual server is the credential identifying its own account. Some feed routes read pages that the platform does not offer an API for; choosing one is a decision about that platform’s terms, and it is deliberately a person’s explicit choice rather than something ServerMod will fall back to on its own.

08 Content

Content posted in a Discord server belongs to whoever posted it. ServerMod claims no ownership of it and processes it only to provide the features described in the privacy policy. Images the bot generates - rank cards, profiles, yearly summaries - are built from that data and are yours to use as you like within your community.

09 Availability, and no warranty

ServerMod is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. There is no uptime guarantee. Automated detection is imperfect and will sometimes miss things or flag the wrong thing, which is why every automated action is reviewable by a person.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, for lost data, or for anything arising from a moderation decision taken by a server operator using this software.

10 Suspension and termination

Access to network reporting, to appeals routing, and to any service operated from this site may be suspended or withdrawn where these terms are breached, where an installation is being used to harm people, or where it is necessary to protect the service. An operator may stop using the software at any time by removing the bot; see section 10 of the privacy policy for what happens to stored data when they do.

11 Changes to these terms

These terms may be updated as the software changes. The date at the top is the date of the most recent change. Continuing to use ServerMod after a change means accepting the revised terms.
